I mean instead of mapping hotkeys to letters that have something to do with the title of the ability, unit, or structure they represent, why not just map them to a system that makes playing the game feel more intuitive? Grid keys make RTS games much better imo. Instead, you can perform all of the abilities and tasks that you should be able to within the vicinity of the controls of a FPS game, which feels really good tbh. ![]() For example my build hotkey is F, and a Burrow is F as well, as opposed to it being on the other side of the keyboard as the default key is O.Ĭustomkeys are sometimes frowned upon, but I think they make RTS games a lot better, as you don't have to develop an awareness for your entire keyboard with them. ![]() The game is similar to Blizzards previous hit Warcraft II. This goes for constructing buildings as well, although for buildings I adjusted them to suit the amount I use them. StarCraft (SC) is a real-time strategy computer game produced by Blizzard Entertainment in 1998. This makes it really simple to fly through your units and access their abilities, wihtout having to manuver your hand across the keyboard too far. For example, every single unit in the game's first ability, which would be on the 1st column and the 4th row of the interface, is mapped to the hotkey Q, their second ability, mapped to W, the 3rd to E, etc. ![]() However, I made adjustments to make it more intuitive. I have my hotkeys set up in wc3 so that I can pretty much do everything with QWER, and ASDF.īasically I orientated my custom keys to a system that corresponds with the 4*4 UI in the bottom right control panel of the interface.
